Divorce & Custody

Marital mediation is an alternative to the adversarial courtroom divorce process. It saves time, money and legal fees, and allows people to decide their own fates in an atmosphere which encourages consensus and resolution.

Couples meet with a mediator experienced in divorce law, who assists them in coming to a mutual agreement about parenting rights and responsibilities, division of property, and any other issues which need to be worked out.

Settlements on some or all the issues are usually worked out in 3 -5 sessions with a mediator.  We encourage parties to seek counsel to review their agreements, but can also provide full document preparation, giving you everything necessary to bring your divorce or custody case to a close.

Elder Care

Elder care mediation helps families in the often difficult decisions involved with aging parents.  Emotions run high when the need to carefully consider the physical, emotional and financial decisions which need to be made are greatest.  We help you with the  complex decisions involved in making use of government programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans’ Benefits, and how they interact with assisted living, nursing home and various residential alternatives for seniors.  What might otherwise be a confusing, costly and contentious process takes place in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

Top 5 Reasons to Mediate

  • Speed   Cases litigated through the court may take months, even years before a decision is made.  Through mediation, a resolution can be achieved within hours.

  • Cost Litigation can cost thousands of dollars.  By engaging in a process where the issues are put on the table, discuss and usually resolved within a matter of hours, fees are greatly reduced.

  • Control  If you want to decide your own fate, rather than let someone else do it for you, mediation is the way to go.

  • Confidentiality   Court hearings are public and files are public records.  Mediation is a confidential process.  Nothing said in  mediation can be used in future court hearings and only the final agreement is filed with the court.

  • Flexibility  In litigation, the court decides what the  resolution will be.  Often neither party is happy with the outcome.  In mediation the parties determine what the best resolution is for themselves and their children.
